Indigenous Peoples Games

The Philippine Sports Commission - Indigenous Peoples Games program was officially launched in 2018 in cooperation with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

PSC aims to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage and tradition of our ancestors through organizing indigenous sports and games in different parts of the country.

The first leg was held in Tagum City, Davao del Norte from April 27 to 28, 2018 led by PSC-IP Games oversight Commissioner Charles Raymond Maxey wherein 300 Indigenous Peoples from the tribes of Ata-Manobo, Dibabawon, Mandaya, Mangguangan, Mansaka and Sama who participated in the two-day event which was also supported by the Province of Davao del Norte and NCIP.   

Through the PSC’s initiative, the House of Representatives approved the Philippine Indigenous Games Preservation Act of 2017 or House Bill No. 8626 in December 2018. Representative Salvador Belaro from 1-Ang Edukasyon Party-list authored this Bill, stating that the traditional games are the "best avenue for self-expression and promoting peace, harmony, goodwill, and camaraderie among the indigenous peoples.”
