BIOGRAPHY

Born on March 11, 1962, Arianne Cerdeña proved herself a world-class bowler when she struck the perfect game at the 1986 Asian Games held in South Korea, where the Philippines took home the gold.

Representing the country for the first time in the international scene, the 1981 Southeast Asian Games was the perfect debut for Cerdeña, clinching the silver medal together with the Philippine bowling team in the tourney.

Not long after this achievement, Cerdeña continuously showcased the country’s might in bowling, winning medals after medals in every succeeding edition of the SEA Games.

Expanding her dominance beyond the Southeast Asian region, she also represented the country in several other international championships, where fellow keglers Olivia “Bong” Coo and other notable bowlers made a name for themselves across the bowling community. One of which is the acclaimed Asian Games, where they reigned the 1986 edition held in Seoul, South Korea in the five-team category for bowling.

Showcasing only the best, Arianne wound up in the 1988 Summer Olympics in South Korea, bagging the gold medal – in what would have been the country’s first Olympic gold, if it wasn’t for bowling being a demonstration event in that edition of the Games.

Ending her sports journey on a golden note, the world saw the last of Cerdeña’s bowling prowess at the 2001 SEA Games, when she and Liza del Rosario took home the gold in the doubles event.

She resided in Los Angeles, California, working as a nurse when she was inducted into the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame in 2021.
