Sixty (60) quarter finalists from all over Visayas  competed in the City of Naga, Cebu this weekend to vie for a slot in the finals of the PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup.

Amateur boxers geared up for the Visayas Quarter Finals this weekend, February 24 and 25 at the Enan Chiong Activity Center in this project which is held by the Philippine Sports Commission in partnership with the Office of Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Olympic Boxing silver medalist Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco was on hand to inspire the young boxers.  His simple advice was “get plenty of rest before a bout.’  He also told the boxers to keep reaching for their dreams, like he did when he was younger. 

The two-day match saw amateur boxers from Mandaue City (Cebu), Cebu City (Cebu), Murcia (Negros Occidental), San Carlos City (Negros Occidental), Escalante City (Negros Occidental), Maasin City (Southern Leyte), Victorias City (Negros Occidental), Don Salvador Benedicto (Negros Occidental), Bago City (Negros Occidental), Sipalay (Negros Occidental), La Carlota (Negros Occidental), Bayawan City (Negros Oriental), Cadiz City (Negros Occidental), and Calbayog City (Samar).

Winners will now advance to the semi-finals which will be held in San Jose, Antique on March 10.
