Blue Batters bludgeon PH team in POC-PSC National Games

Reigning Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines champion Ateneo pulled of its second straight win yesterday by beating the RP Youth team, 12-2, in the 2013 POC-PSC National Games baseball competitions at the Rizal ballpark in Vito Cruz, Manila.

The Blue Batters fell behind, 1-2 after the first inning, but they moved ahead on runs scored in the second and third, and a four-run binge in the fourth.

With their latest triumph, Ateneo gained a share of the lead with National University, ILLAM, Philab and La Salle.

The nationals, who won over Marikina, 4-2, earlier in the day, dropped behind with their 2-1 win-loss record.

They share second with Rizal Technological University, which rallied from a 1-4 deficit in the second inning to pull off a 6-5 victory over University of Santo Tomas.

Earlier, Far Eastern University snatched four of the eight gold medals in women’s taekwondo competitions at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Former UAAP Most Valuable Player Christian Dela Cruz led the list of winners in the men’s division, topping the welterweight class after disposing of Joel Alejandro of Pasig.

Winlove Dela Cerna snared the gold in the flyweight crown by beating national team member Ma. Isabelle Mora, while Geena Mae Gadit took home the bantamweight crown after defeating Karen Celis of University of the East.

Cecilia Viray and Clouie Boliras added to FEU’s collection when they bagged the featherweight and lightweight divisions against opponents from University of Santo Tomas.

Viray turned back Arrian Asugurado, while Boliras defeated Marjelle Sy for the gold.
