Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Janelle Mae Frayna settled for the bronze medal at the end of the individual blitz chess competition in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Quang Ninh, Vietnam Friday.

Frayna won her second bronze after leading the team to third place in rapid chess Thursday.

Vietnam swept the two gold medals through International Master Le Tuan Minh and IM Pham Le Thao Nguyen.

Frayna reached the knockout semifinals by finishing second in the preliminary round, posting 4 points in five rounds.

She defeated compatriot WFM Shania Mae Mendoza, IM Medina Warda Aulia of Indonesia, WFM Puteri Rifqah Fahada Azhar and WGM Nguyen Thi Mai Hung.

Her only loss was inflicted by WIM Chelsie Monica Ignesias of Indonesia.

In the semifinals, Frayna was swept by Pham in two matches.

Pham went on to beat Sihite, 1.5-0.5, in the final.

In men’s play, IM Daniel Quizon came half-point short of joining the playoffs for semis spots.

He cruised past IM Wynn Zaw Htun of Myanmar, Pornariyasombat Atippat of Thailand and Malaysian IM Yeoh Li Tian, but bowed to Vietnamese GM Le Quang Liem and Liem.

IM Paolo Bersamina, the other Filipino in the field, won only over Thais Kananub Warot and Pornariyasombat. He lost to GM Susanto Megaranto of Indonesia, IM Myint Han of Myanmar and Malaysian FIDE Master Wong Yinn Long.

Liem and Minh went on to forge an all-Vietnam final which Minh won.
