PH starts preparations for 2022 Asiad

WITH the aim to surpass its performance in the 2018 Asiad, Team Philippines will be competing in 46 of 61 sports for the 2022 Asian Games set on September 10 to 25 in Hangzhou, China.

Team PH seized four gold medals in the 2018 edition of the quadrennial sporting conclave courtesy of female athletes, namely: Hidilyn Diaz in weightlifting, Margielyn Didal in skateboarding, Yuka Saso in individual golf and the trio of Saso Bianca Pagdanganan and Lois Kaye Go in golf women’s team.

The Philippines ranked 19th in the continental sporting conclave finishing with 4-2-15 gold-silver-bronze haul.

Filipino athletes aim to surpass that next year as Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino submitted the list to the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee Friday.

The sports that the country listed to compete in are aquatics, archery, athletics, baseball, softball, men’s basketball, men’s 3×3 basketball, boxing, canoe-kayak and cycling MTB and BMX.

Included in the list are dancesports’ breaking, men’s dragon boat, equestrian, fencing, men’s football, golf, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, judo, jiu-jitsu, kurash, karate, bridge, chess, esports, xiangqi, modern pentathlon, skateboarding, rowing, men’s rugby, sailing and sepak takraw.

Filipinos will also compete in shooting, sports climbing, squash, tae kwon do, tennis, triathlon, men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s beach volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.
