Ninoy Aquino Stadium to serve as quarantine facility

Installation of bed units inside the Ninoy Aquino Stadium at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex has commenced.

The NAS will serve as one of the quarantine facilities for coronavirus (COVID-19)-positive patients in an effort to decongest hospitals which have already breached full capacity.

A total of 112 bed units will be installed and the facility will be fully-functional by next week.

Philippines Sports Commission national traning director and commissioner Marc Velasco on Friday inspected the construction inside the NAS, which had undergone renovation and hosted events in the 30th Southeast Asian Games last year, together with Manila City Hall and barangay officials.

Last Sunday, PSC chairman Butch Ramirez announced that facilities of the government’s sports arm will be utilized as temporary medical hospitals after the PSC volunteered to use Rizal Memorial Complex and the PhilSports Complex in Pasig City in the fight against the contagion.

As of Friday, the COVID-19 cases in the country has soared to more than 3,000 with 136 fatalities.
