Blu Girls seeking to retain SEA Games reign

The Philippine Blu Girls are on a mission to clinch their 10th gold medal for the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

"There's always pressure to deliver especially now that we're playing in the Philippines," Blu Girls team captain Cheska Altomonte told CNN Philippines' Sports Desk. "But I think we've prepared very well for the tournament and we're confident that we'll be able to deliver that 10th gold."

The Blu Girls are eyeing to continue the country's 42-year dominance in the regional meet. The national team remains unbeaten since the 1977 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

"The program that we've been having for the past years has been a really a good program. The PSC (Philippine Sports Commission) has supported us. The program has come a long way over the years," Altomonte said.

The Filipinas finished fourth in the World Baseball Softball Confederations (WBSC) Softball Asia-Oceania Olympic Qualifier held in China last month.

"We've grown a lot as players, with all the tournaments that we've been playing, all the international tournaments."

For Blu Girls member Angelie Ursabia, the squad needs to work out their teamwork and confidence for the regional meet. "For me, nasa 90 percent ['yung kumpiyansa], kailangan pa namin mag-training nang hard."
