The Armed Forces and Air Force congratulated Hidiliyn Diaz for winning the country’s first-ever gold medal at the Olympics.
Diaz, a sergeant at the PAF, won the women’s 55kg category for weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Monday evening.
She also broke an Olympic record for lifting a combined weight of 224kg.
“Her masterful performance in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she also set an Olympic record in the 55kg division, brought pride and glory to the AFP and the country,” military chief Gen. Cirilito Sobejana said.
“We are now more than ever inspired by her exceptional hard work, perseverance, and dedication. We wish her the best moving forward. Soar high, airwoman!” he added.
The PAF, in a separate statement, also congratulated Diaz.
