Eight team trophies will be awarded to the top schools in the Tempo Inter-Schools Rapid Chess Championships presented by the Manila Prince Hotel on July 20.
Aside from the Open and women's overall champions, separate trophies will be given to the Open and women's winners in the college, high school and elementary divisions.
To accommodate schools that could not field entries in all three divisions, the overall champion will now be determined by adding the sum of the top three scorers from two of three brackets.
"Since there are schools that don't have elementary or college students, we decided to modify the rules to include only two divisions," said tournament director Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales.
The one-day, FIDE-rated event will be played at the Manila Prince Hotel, a 300-room business hotel located at the corner of United Nations Avenue and San Marcelino Street.
It is sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and supported by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), SM Supermalls, Mighty Sports Apparel and Accessories, International Container Services, Inc. and 1-Pacman Party-list.
A total of R100,000 will be at stake in the event sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).
