Batang Pinoy finals set Nov. 19

A total of 2,162 athletes will compete in the Batang Pinoy National Finals slated on Nov. 19-23 in Bacolod City.
It marks the first time that Bacolod is hosting the national finals of the grassroots competition for athletes 15 years old and below.
It is organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) supported by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and Local Government Units.
“This is the best of the best competition. I am expecting new heroes and heroines will emerge in this competition,” said Commissioner Jose Luis Gomez.
Participants will compete in 24 sports, the winners of which will be supported by the PSC.
Some of the prominent young potential athletes in the Luzon leg include swimmers Maurice Sacho Ilustre and Marc Aubrey Santos and archer Althea Nasha Dionaldo.
Ilustre, a swimming standout from University of the East, and Santos, a Bulakeno from Malolos ang both 14 years old, won four gold medals each while 12-year-old Dionaldo from Dumaguete City, bagged four golds in archery.
Sports at stake in the finals are athletics, arnis, badminton, billiards, basketball 3-on-3 (boys and girls), boxing, chess, dance sports, futsal, judo, gymnastics (cheer dance), karatedo, lawn tennis, pencak silat, sepak takraw, soft tennis, softball, taekwondo, swimming, table tennis, triathlon, wrestling, weightlifting and volleyball (boys and girls).
