47 athletes get P1.7-M incentives

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) handed Saturday P1.7 million cash incentives to 47 athletes who won medals in various international competitions that included members of Gilas Pilipinas which finished second in the FIBA-Asia championship.
The basketball team skippered by Gary David and coached by Chot Reyes, received P1 million from Chairman Ricardo Garcia in the presence of POC president Jose Cojuangco, POC chairman and Triathlon Association of the Philippine president Tom Carassco, secretary general Steve Hontiveros, Southeast Asian Games Chief of Mission Jeff Tamayo and NGAP head Tommy Manotoc.
Of the 47 medalists, Pauline Louise Lopez and Clare Amelia Legaspi of taekwondo and Gerald Jamili and Cherry Claire Parcon of dance sports each received P75,000 each.
Lopez and Legaspi won golds in the 2nd Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China while Jamili and Parcon got golds in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Thailand.
Jamili and Parcon got an additional P25,000 each for winning the bronze, apart from the gold.
Francis Aaron Agojo, Princess Maria Superal, and Jurence Mendoza got P50,000 each while Rubilen Amit got P25,000 for winning the bronze in the 10-ball individual in the Asian Indoor Games.
Receiving P15,000 each for winning the gold in their respective pet events were Noel John Alabata, Ian Clark Bautista, James Palicte, Eumir Felix Marcial, Jade Bornea, Mikaela Calamba, McAvyngar Alob, Rhinna Babanto, and the victorious Putra Cup fourman golf team composed of Jobim Antonio Carlos, Jonathan de los Reyes, Richard Caldwell Hoey III and Ruperto Zaragosa III.
