The Philippine Sports Commission approved P86,777,500.00 to fund the 700-strong delegation to the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia this August.

In a meeting held at the PSC main office, Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, the PSC board led by PSC Chairman Butch Ramirez, approved the final numbers to fund expenses related to the Philippine team’s participation in the said biennial event.

The approved amount covers airfare, accommodation, uniforms and allowances of the contingent.  A big chunk of the budget is earmarked for the billeting of our national team.

“As promised, we shall continue to back our national athletes,” Ramirez said.  “Even if the PSC is now training its sights on grassroots sports, our elite athletes will always have our support.  While we recognize that the POC and the NSAs take care of their training and preparation, the government through the PSC will always lend assistance to get them up to the level they need to be”

Aside from this budget, the PSC also took care of equipment requirements of the different sports.  The government sports agency also took the tab for the national team’s training camps and competitions here and abroad.

An estimated 661 athletes and coaches shall be carrying the country’s flag when they vie for gold in 38 sports in the said event.
